Longwood Primary School

Health Education

We proudly provide a healthy happy safe environment for all our learners to flourish in.

As part of the Connected curriculum we provide a range of healthy activities, special visitors, weekly Physical Education sessions and our PSHE lessons.

Through our PSHE (JIGSAW) sessions we promote British values of democracy, the importance of rules/the law, individual liberties, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different beliefs and cultures.

Phunky Food Ambassadors receive training within school from staff and Phunky Food consultants to deliver key messages across the school regarding healthy meals and active lifestyles. Key messages are delivered throughout the academic year to enstill sustainable choices.

Active Travel Ambassadors gain confidence and skills to address transport issues and promote active travel to and from school. All pupils participate in Active Travel assemblies to understand the importance of taking responsibility for their own health and the environment in which they live.

Since our kitchen staff have been part of our school staffing structure they have regularly consulted with our learners and participated with their learning activities to support our learners in exploring a range of healthy menu options in fact their opinions were considered when we produced our healthy new menus which has seen a huge increase in uptake of school lunches.
